Mystik Luminate – Live Holiday EP Mix

Dave and Peter were able to unite in Austin, Texas back in December of 2022 through Jan of 2023 during a family holiday for Christmas and New Year’s. Dave had just finished a massive routing project in his studio, setting up three patch bays uniting all of his newly constructed desks to one central hub. He was excited to show Peter around and got one jam in after a bit of studio orientation.

Mystik Luminate had wanted to write a new EP over the holidays. Despite the unforeseen circumstances, they were still able to record some new material. Here is a summary video of a live set done to document the new material.

Unfortunately, over their time together, Dave got Covid and it became necessary to self-isolate which meant that they couldn’t record or jam together anymore. However, during that time, Peter was actually staying in Dave’s studio, and therefore able to continue exploring his gear – albeit largely on his own, which rendered much of Dave’s recent patching moot for the moment.

Nevertheless, Peter was able to re-patch select gear directly into the Force and Deluge, both of which he also owns and operates with some proficiency in his own studio in San Francisco, CA. These were platforms both brothers had decided to invest in as common denominators and familiar tools that each could access and utilize in each other’s studios. This was just the moment.

After several nights of recording and writing parts, patching gear directly, exploring new platforms such as using the Hapax to program midi lines for the PolyBrute…dream workflows suddenly becoming real! Sampling became paramount to capture all of the localized gear from Dave’s studio into a portable and mobile format for future use and archival after the reunion.

There are several in-process videos of the recording process. We’ll work on processing those and gauge interest around posting those or adding to this story after publishing.
